5 Simple Ways To Bring Feng Shui Into Your Life

When you think of feng shui, what comes to mind? You might think of it as a mysterious and ancient art form practiced in a far- away land. Or perhaps as a sophisticated method of organizing your home, your life, and your space. Maybe you recently came across an article in your favourite design magazine or blog and now you want to learn more, and are a little feng shui curious. Well you are in luck, because I have pulled together five super, simple ways you can start practicing this transformational art today.

What can feng shui do for you?

Feng shui is like a big, cleansing breath for your home. Improving the quality and amount of energy in your home will support, calm, and create a greater sense of ease. Just by making simple changes you can shift the energy in your home.  Feng shui has the power to change not only the look of your home, but also your outlook on life.

Here are five things you can do today:

Feng shui is like a big, cleansing breath for your home. Improving the quality and amount of energy in your home will support, calm, and create a greater sense of ease. Just by making simple changes you can shift the energy in your home.  Feng shui has the power to change not only the look of your home, but also your outlook on life.

1. Say goodbye to the clutter: Clutter can affect you physically and emotionally: it brings the eyes down, scatters your thoughts and stirs up negative feelings. It is always a good idea to do a quick purge before you bring more ’stuff’ into your home. Be mindful, and remove objects that are no longer functional. Positive energy (chi) flourishes in an environment that is filled with objects that you love – not just possess.

2. Clear your front entrance: Clean your entrance, clearing off any debris and making any needed repairs to railings or steps. By creating a welcoming front entrance, you not only make guests feel warm and welcome; you also clear a path for the energy outside so it can enter your home more easily. A good sweeping can do wonders.

3. Boost the energy: Feng shui practitioners call the front door the ‘Mouth of chi’, it is one of the most important areas of your home. Chi, the energetic life force that flows through all living things is vital to a happy and productive home. Simple changes to this area often lead to positive changes in your life. You can add a simple decorative element to your front door and entryway area this will boost the energy coming into your home, bringing positive chi and opportunities.

4. Clearing the chi: Sometimes the energy in your home becomes heavy and stagnant, or even negative. Have you ever had visitors over, and found that after they left something felt different? Or perhaps you returned home after a ‘bad’ day and felt that you dragged some of that negativity with you? What you are feeling is a change in your personal chi, as well as in the chi of the home.

A simple space clearing can help to clear the home of stagnant chi. You can use burn sage, ring bells, or even use oranges peels (yep, this is a project in my book). If you can’t get a hold of white sage to burn, incense will work in a pinch.

5. Set a positive intention: By setting an intention or making an affirmation you will focus on a goal or desire that you wish to fulfill. Write something out that you wish to accomplish or see happen. In the feng shui I practice it is firmly held that your intention and mindset work in tandem with any physical changes you make to your space. By combining a clear intention with feng shui the practice becomes even more effective.
