Food is everywhere, we are constantly bombarded with adverts, offers and the new fad diets. This caused me to start thinking about how mindful I am when I eat. 

After spending hours in the kitchen preparing a new dish I often feel rewarded and appreciative of my food, this is very different to how I feel when mindlessly eating popcorn. Being mindful about the food we eat and the process of fuelling our body can really help us all to build a positive relationship with our food.

I have eaten my share of "bad" foods, strayed from the healthy path and it often leaves me feeling sluggish, lethargic - definitely not how I want my body to feel. 

I want the food i put into my body to energise me and make me feel alive. Now, many of you may have herd of high vibration foods and whether you follow this trend or another it all boils down to looking after your body, listening to your body and how you feel. There are many high vibration foods and each of us have different needs, so you can't just eat all of these foods and expect them all to make you feel good. It is important to listen to your body and what it is telling you about the food you are putting in.

What is high vibration food?

We are all energy and we fuel our bodies in many ways, including energy from food. It can be difficult to stick to at times, but healthier, non-processed foods are believed to have higher energy.and leave you feeling better. 

This idea is not anything new! The ancient Greeks believed that good food bought with it 'agapi' (unconditional love), they took pride in their food and believed the food would heal them. 

I believe we should connect back with these ideas, become mindful about our eating and eat foods that will both fuel and heal you, foods that give you the essential minerals and vitamins to prevent illness.   

Mindful Eating

In recent times eating has often become a quick way to fuel the body, with less awareness of the food we are putting in, the process the food has taken to get to us or the environment in which we are eating it. 

When looking into my own life i began to realise that sometimes food was used as something special, an event, quality time with others, sitting down appreciating the food and appreciating each others company. Whereas other times it is a quick on the go snack to try and get some energy in with little attention to the process at all, so detached and mindless. 

The ancient Greeks would preform many rituals, songs and dances whilst preparing dishes. The food would often be blessed and prepared with real love in order to infuse positive energies. There are a few things I decided to change about the way I approached eating in my life to better match these ideas: 

  • I decided to cook more slowly
  • I decided to be more aware of the ingredients going into any of the foods I was eating
  • I now pause and give thanks to mother nature for the food I am about to eat (meat eaters may also find it beneficial to give thanks and gratitude to the animal)
  • I try to eat slowly and acknowledge each of my senses
  • I now focus more on eating and do not eat whilst doing something else
  • I listen to my body and how it feels after certain foods

Linking mindfulness to our eating habits is a fantastic way to practice gratitude, appreciate your food, think about what you are eating and whether it really is fuelling your body.  Pour your own positive energies into your foods and maybe try a few of the changes I made and see if it makes a difference to your relationship with food.

Use your mind and love food! Your mind is powerful and we should allow positive thinking to help transform our relationship with eating. Do not see this as a way of restricting, creating guilt or being better than others. This is a way of opening up, connecting with nature, fuelling your body with high vibration foods that work well for you. Foods that make you feel energised, alive and uplifted.

High Vibration Food

  • Fruits
  • Vegetable
  • Fermented Foods
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Herbs
  • Spices

Low vibration foods are often those that have been modified, highly processed and treated with chemical and pesticides. It is best to minimise meat intake and really look at the quality and ingredients of the foods you are eating.

  • White rice and flour
  • Genetically modified food
  • Meat, fish and poultry
  • Processed foods
  • Frozen foods
  • Oils (canola, margarine, vegetable oils)
  • Animal products  (milk, yogurts and cheese)
  • Deep fried foods
  • Microwaved Foods
  • Soda
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee
  • Chlorine or Fluoride treated water
